York Graduate Research School are offering the following event:
Shut Up and Write for Postgraduate Research Studentsis a simple concept: it is an opportunity for you to start, continue, or finish written work in a supportive environment with other postgraduates.
How does it work?Come and work in silence but in the company of other research students. Switch off your phone and, using the power of peer pressure, avoid temptations to do anything but work on a piece of writing.What do I need to bring?A piece of work that you are working on. You can spend the time reading, taking notes, doing analysis, or anything else related to your research: it is up to you, but do have a goal in mind for what you want to achieve by the end of the event.A laptop or pen and paper – it depends what you are working on and how you prefer to work.What is the benefit?Hopefully you will surprise yourself when you see how much you get done when you focus. You will also meet new people from across University. Once you experience it, you may be inspired to start up your ownShut Up and Write sessions with your new or current colleagues.
DuringShut Up and Writewe will also be offering a drop-in service to provide help with:searching/finding informationusing reference management software (e.g. Endnote)referencingformatting documentsmanaging research dataopen access publicationcopyright (e.g. using third-party materials in your thesis).
