MoreBooks Opens 1 June

The University of York is again giving students (and that includes all HYMS students) the opportunity to tell them what books to buy, whether it's a title the Library doesn't have or an additional copy of a book you’re finding it hard to get your hands on. We aim to buy e-books through the scheme where possible, so even if you're based at Hull, there's absolutely no reason not to make use of your York credentials and take part.

The scheme will close when all the money's used up.

A MoreBooks button (above) will appear on Wednesday 1 June alongside book titles in YorSearch and all you need to do is click it and enter your details in the form. To suggest an item that York doesn't currently have, go to the New titles through MoreBooks form. The Library will then purchase a copy of the book you want.

Last time we ran MoreBooks, more HYMS students offered suggestions than ever before, and we're looking forward to doing even more book-shopping this time around, so please let us know what you'd like to see on the shelves and e-shelves!

OSCE Information Search Revision Material

It was great to see the first years that came to our pre OSCE drop-in. If you missed the session or would just like a recap then take a look at the HYMS library webpages this page has everything you need for revision including mini-tutorials covering Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT), truncation and wild cards (or truncat* and “w?ld cards” if we are being clever about it). There’s also the updated Medline tutorial and the IS2 workbook on this page too. Take a look at these over the next couple of weeks and make sure that you are familiar with the skills contained in the various guides available to you. Good luck everyone!

Have we mentioned how good the Brynmor Jones building is lately??

Err, yes- but we can't resist mentioning that as well as the recent RIBA awards the Brynmor Jones has been included in the shortlist for the SCONUL 2016 Library Design Awards. It's a long wait but we'll be crossing our fingers for the announcement of the winner on the 1st December.

Another excuse for a nice photo..

For full details of the shortlist see http://www.sconul.ac.uk/news/design-awards-shortlist-and-event. Good luck BJL!

Extra silent study space at University of Hull Library

If you're finding it hard to find a quiet spot to do that revision there's good news at the Brynmor Jones Library as they've added some extra silent study space during the exam period. Find it on the 2nd floor.
