University of York Library - Opening of the Harry Fairhurst Building

On 26th April 2011 the Harry Fairhurst building will open, providing IT-rich study and research areas, linked directly to the JB Morrell Library. Students and researchers will have access to a large number of new spaces, including reading areas, group studies, open collaborative zones, specialist research areas, research hotels and a bookable PC classroom.

The IT Support Office, IT Training and Academic Liaison teams will be based on the first floor of the building alongside the E-learning Development and Learning Enhancement Teams, providing IT, study and research support.

The building will have WiFi access throughout and also include new printing and photocopying facilities.

University of York Library refurbishment: latest news

In preparation for the refurbishment of the JB Morrell Library ground floor which is scheduled to start in July 2011, from Monday 21st March the main entrance area layout will be rearranged:

  • One entry gate will be taken out of action. Visitors should enter and exit the building through the signed gate.
  • Self-return machines will be moved to the far end of the ground floor open zone, near the doors which lead to the main JBM stairwell.
  • The refurbishment notice board and plasma screen in the ground floor open zone will be temporarily removed.
  • The Photocopying Office will remain open as normal, but access may be through a boarded area. Signs will be in place to show you the way.
  • The Photographic Department office has already moved from the JB Morrell Library to a new office in the Raymond Burton Library, next door to the PC classroom on the ground floor.

Document Supply from the University of Hull

The British Library upgraded to Adobe 10 in mid February and since then Document Supply have had a problem providing Secure Electronic Delivery requests. Unfortunately, until this problem has been resolved Document Supply will not be able to supply SED requests and will revert to providing paper copies.

University of York Library: first floor has reopened

The first floor of the JB Morrell Library is open again now.

University of York Library: first floor closed

The first floor of the JB Morrell Library is closed due to an ongoing fire alarm on this floor. We are waiting for an engineer to come and fix the problem as soon as possible.

In the meantime we will be operating a book retrieval service every half hour to retrieve books from this floor.

OECD health data - easier access

The providers of OECD Health Data have recently made improvements to the method of access for this resource. You now no longer need to load OECD Health Data as an installed package but can access direct using your University of York e-account. The resource is listed under the medicine section of Metalib (available from the HYMS Library tab > Databases & EBM sources > Further databases via York University Library - or directly by clicking on the title above).
