Read-cycle is the place at HYMS to advertise and buy secondhand books and is available at http://readcycle.hyms.org.uk. It was introduced in direct response to student feedback in June 2013 and we’d like to know how useful you’re finding it.

Map of Medicine access update

Due to changes in resource access at the University of Hull, access to the Map of Medicine resource will soon only be available via NHS Athens.

To access,

• Go to http://www.mapofmedicine.com/  and click on Access via Athens.
• Enter your NHS Athens username and password. (If you are unsure of your NHS Athens username and password, use the Forgot NHS password option at http://libguides.hull.ac.uk/medicine/eResourceAccessInfo).
• If this is the first time you have used Map of Medicine, you will need to set up an account, otherwise sign in using the email address connected to the account.

Brynmor Jones Library Redevelopment update - 2nd floor and postgraduate lounge

·         Library and Learning Innovation are delighted to announce the opening of the 2^nd floor of the tower. This floor contains the new postgraduate research lounge, the law books, PC desks and soft seating as well as an information point.  The ‘bridge’ which links the tower and east building is due to open early June.  This is the first time the two buildings making up the Brynmor Jones Library will ever have been connected at this level.

·         The postgraduate research lounge is intended for the exclusive use of research students, and door access will be controlled.  It contains some 70 study spaces, mostly formal desks, 24 of which have fixed PCs.  All spaces have individual power sockets and access to the wireless network.  There are also dedicated printing, photocopying and scanning facilities, large pigeon holes for temporary storage of belongings, and a notice board for student use.  As in all parts of the building above the ground floor, cold bottled drinks only are permitted in this area.

Consolidate your search histories on Ovid

Embase will no longer be available via Ovid at Hull from July 2014. If you have any saved

searches you should consider saving and/or moving them to another platform. Here’s a quick

step by step to move from Hull to York Ovid:

1. Login to Hull Ovid at http://libguides.hull.ac.uk/medicine/FindArticles

2. (From the Hull catalogue page select Medline > Institutional Login > UK Access > University of Hull and enter your Hull network account details)

3. Log into My Account

4. Go to My workspace > My Searches and Alerts

5. Select the Display option (eye icon) for the search you wish to copy

6. Copy the displayed search to Word or Notepad

7. Delete the line numbers from each line

8. Log out of Hull Ovid

9. Go to http://demo.ovid.com.ezproxy.york.ac.uk/demo/ovidsptools/launcher.htm

10. Login using your York Account details

11. Each database in Ovid has a different “Database Short code”. Get the one for the database you wish to save to (see link on page for list) and enter the code on the form

12. Ignore the Username and Password fields

13. Enter the Personal Login details for your York personal account in the format:

username|password (with NO spaces)

14. Copy the search history into the form and submit the query. The search will now run

and can be save to the new personal account.

15. Check and save your search

Brynmor Jones Library Redevelopment Update

What’s going on?

·         Work is continuing on the atrium, staircase and lifts which you can see in new photographs which have been added to the image gallery.  The concrete for the path leading to the new south entrance has been cast.  This whole area is due to be handed over in early May.

·         Demolition work on the ground floor where the new gallery and exhibition space will be located is continuing.  The existing floor has been removed in preparation for laying the new floor next week.This area is expected to be handed over mid June.

·         There has been a short delay to the completion of the 2^nd floor of the tower.  This area should now be handed over the week beginning 14 April. This floor contains the new postgraduate research lounge, the law books, PC desks and soft seating as well as an information point.
