From Monday 5 September, you'll need to use your University card to enter and leave the Library at York.

At the beginning of this year, York switched the Library turnstiles to card access for all staff, students, and visitors. This has enabled them to collect helpful information about use of the Library, including details about which departments use the Library most, when the Library is busiest, and how many non-University visitors they see.

In order to make best use of this information, they now want to find out how long people are spending in the Library. To this end, the Library exit gates have been replaced with turnstiles, and from Monday 5 September you'll need to swipe your University card to leave the Library, as well as on arrival.

If you do forget your Library card, please go to the Reception, and staff will issue you with a temporary pass.

Brynmor Jones Library Redevelopment update

·         The remainder of the ground floor, excluding the east entrance, gallery and exhibition space, is now open.  This includes Teaching Rooms 1 & 2, soft seating, quick print PCs and the remainder of the Welcome Desk turnstiles.  The Library and Learning Innovation Training Rooms are also situated in this area.  Contractors are currently commissioning the AV in the teaching and training rooms and they will be in use from Monday 17 November.

·         The gallery and exhibition space are due to be handed over week commencing 24 November.  It will then be possible to start moving the University Art Collection into the new gallery.

·         The redevelopment of the original east entrance is due to be completed in the course of December.

External works, excluding the area around the BAM compound and site offices, should be finished by the end of this month, at which point the fences will be removed.

Brynmor Jones Library, University of Hull, redevelopment update

·         The west (tower) end of the ground floor will open at 2.00pm today, Monday 29 September.  At the same time the 2^nd floor of the east building will also be re-openin.

·         The west end of the ground floor contains 30 PCs, informal seating and two centrally bookable teaching rooms, an information point, and printing and recycling facilities. It also contains the new book sorter.  This is where all books will be returned in future, and where they will be automatically sorted for distribution to the various locations around the Library.  Until the book sorter is fully tested and operational books will continue to be returned at the information point on the first floor of the tower.

·         The 2^nd floor of the east building contains three centrally bookable teaching rooms, 16 PCs, informal seating, group study rooms, an information point, and printing and recycling facilities.

·         External works are nearing completion and access to the new south entrance has been simplified and made more visible.  Brynmor Jones Library hopes to open the old main entrance and the rest of the ground floor, with the exception of the gallery and exhibition spaces, in the second half of this month.
