Systematic Reviews on the Move

These days we expect responsive design in all the websites we visit. Most of us use our phone or tablet to access the internet just as much, if not more than, we use a desktop or laptop. So why shouldn't we be able to access information on the devices we are using? Cochrane are the latest good eggs to provide a host of features such as clean and responsive design, social media integration and a whole feast of lovely stuff in the picture to your right. Cochrane Library loading MeSH update; reduced functionality, 30th January to 1 February 2015

On Friday 30th January 2015, the Cochrane Library (http://www.cochranelibrary.com) will update the MeSH Thesaurus to the latest version. Search functionality should return accurate results on Sunday 1st February, 2015.

While the MeSH update is in progress, users may see a slight difference in some search counts until this processing is complete. The Cochrane Library are recommending that searches are not performed during this period.

Users are advised to review any searches containing MeSH terms, after the release to ensure that they have the correct MeSH term.

MeSH term changes are available at the NLM site at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/whatsnew.html.

The Cochrane Library apologies for any inconvenience caused during the time of the update.

Changes to the Cochrane

The Cochrane Library is changing how it publishes their systematic reviews online. From June, new systematic reviews will be added to the Cochrane Library when they are ready (called Publish When Ready) rather than the usual time once a Month.

Cochrane Library updates

On the 15th December The Cochrane Library updated its search interface and added some new search tools including:

Did you mean? – Offers spelling suggestions for the search terms entered

Share a search – Allows users to easily share their saved searches via an e-mail link

Combine searches using ranges – Eliminates the need to type long strings of line numbers when combining searches

Alerts for saved strategies – Set monthly alerts for strings saved on the Search Manager tab

Print search with counts – Create a print-friendly version of your search with counts using a single click

Type MeSH directly in Search Manager – Users can now directly enter MeSH terms using the Search Manager tab.

New Search Functionality for The Cochrane Library

The Cochrane Library has now completed its search functionality update. Some key developments are:

 

• Improved search screens allowing users to view their search and results on the same page
• Updated search results display and filtering
• Redesigned MeSH display, with all information on one page
• Major enhancements to search editing features including the ability to insert lines and add one search to another
• New auto-suggest features for Basic and MeSH Searches
• Improved Tool tips, Help Tips and Error Messaging

Changes to the search pages of the Cochrane Library coming soon

In the next few months Wiley will be introducing an improved search interface to the Cochrane Library. As a result there will be major changes to the layout of the search pages and new features.  Full details are available at http://www.thecochranelibrary.com/view/0/ccochnewsearch.html.

Previously saved searches will be moved to the new search platform with no action required by users of the site.
