Support for students and staff with disabilities

Both University Libraries are committed to ensuring that all members can make the best possible use of their services and collections, and where possible the Libraries provide a bespoke service to students and staff with disabilities.

Further information for each site can be found online:

York also offer one-to-one tours of the Library. These can be arranged at a time to suit you and will take approximately 30 minutes. A member of Library staff will show you around the facilities and explain the range of assistance and services that are offered. Tours can be booked via Disability Services, or you can contact the Library directly at lib-enquiry@york.ac.uk. If you’re happy to explain the nature of your disability when you book the tour or when you arrive, it will help the Library to tailor their services to your needs.

MoreBooks scheme

Are you a student? Do you want us to buy some more books?

The University of York is again giving students (and that includes all HYMS students) the opportunity to tell them what books to buy, whether it's a title the Library doesn’t have or an additional copy of a book you’re finding it hard to get your hands on. We aim to buy e-books through the scheme where possible, so even if you're based at Hull, there's absolutely no reason not to make use of your York credentials and take part.

There's £20K to spend and the scheme will close when all the money's used up.

A MoreBooks button (above) will appear alongside book titles in YorSearch and all you need to do is click it and enter your details in the form. To suggest an item that York doesn’t currently have, go to the New titles through MoreBooks form. The Library will then purchase a copy of the book you want.

Last time we ran MoreBooks, more HYMS students offered suggestions than ever before, and we're looking forward to doing even more book-shopping this time around, so please let us know what you'd like to see on the shelves and e-shelves!

Art Gallery Collection on the Virtual Bookshelf

Calling all art connoisseurs!

In January cataloguing was completed on the York Art Gallery Gift Collection -  3,500 items donated to the Library by the York Museums Trust. Following on from this, the project team and Digital York have now launched the Virtual Bookshelf, which features many items from the collection - click on something that takes your interest, and you go straight to the catalogue entry, to find out where you can see it in real life. You can explore the Virtual Bookshelf at:
http://digital.york.ac.uk/showcase/yorkcityartgallery.jsp

The Virtual Bookshelf will add further collections over the coming months and you can read blog posts by Library staff about interesting and unique items in the collection on the Liberating Information blog: York City Art Gallery blog posts.

We're also looking forward to the opening of the art gallery at the Brynmor Jones Library in Hull. Paintings are being hung at the moment.
