HYMS Library, via University of York Library, have trial access to several key medical titles until 31 October 2017. You can access them from the front page of the library website, you’ll need your York details to access them.

Never ones to offer you something and take it away, we’re interested to know whether you would like us to buy any of these titles, so take a look at the trial texts, and if you think they are any good, or otherwise, let us know by completing this short survey.

Christmas 2014 opening at the University Libraries

Merry Christmas from HYMS Library! The University libraries will be closed during the following periods:

At the University of York, the library will be closed 4pm Wed 24 December 2014 to 8am Sat 27 December 2014, and 4pm Wed 31 December 2014 to 8am Fri 2 January 2015. University of York items are subject to recall throughout the vacation, but there are no due dates between 20 December 2014 and 4 January 2015. At the University of Hull, the library will be closed from 12.30pm Wed 24 December 2014 to 9am on 3rd January 2015. No items will be due during this period. Elsevier eLibrary Website Refresh

Elsevier have made some changes to the interface for their eLibrary website, which you'll have used if you've accessed our Clinical Examination by Owen Epstein eBook or Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine eBook. You can access the website through the links below (you will need your York account details):

New eBooks: Gray's Anatomy for Students and Clinical Neuroanatomy and Neuroscience

You now have access to Gray's Anatomy for Students by Richard Drake and Clinical Neuroanatomy and Neuroscience by Estomih Mtui, Gregory Gruener and M. J. T. Fitzgerald as eBooks.

You can access them via the University of Hull library catalogue, so will need your Hull account details.

Using E-library ebooks on a handheld device

If you're wanting to read Epstein's Clinical Examination or Kumar and Clark's Clinical Medicine on a handheld device, you may find that the links from YorSearch take you to a rather empty looking screen and a warning telling you "to upgrade your Flash player to view the reader in flash mode":



This will happen if you're on a device that doesn't support the Flash player (e.g. Android, iOS). But you can still view the eBook on your device. Here's what you need to do:

From the empty screen, click the Bookshelf link in the top right-hand corner.



The Bookshelf page displays the ebooks we have on the E-library platform.

For the book you wish to read, click the ePUB icon () next to Online Reading Options. The book should open in the ePUB reader which does not require the Flash plug-in.
You can get back to the Bookshelf from the ePUB reader by clicking .

Clicking the icon next to Download in the Bookshelf page should give you an option to download the book. This will require an app, which you will need to install on your device. The download will expire after one week.

If you're using a desktop machine without Flash, you can click on the icon that appears on the Bookshelf page to read the ebook in a Flash-free format.

Changes to the ebook and ejournal cross-search

You may have noticed that the ebook and ejournal cross search tools have changed slightly - the cross searches now link to the new Hull catalogue. If you haven't tried this yet, do it now at the links below!
