Easter opening 2017

If you’re planning on hitting the library over the Easter vacation, well now Hull is staying open 24/7. York is also open 24/7 too!

If you are travelling over the Easter vacation you may want to take advantage of the SCONUL scheme. This allows undergraduate students reference use of other university library's physical book stock during vacation times. Postgraduates, part-time and distance learning or placement students can also borrow books and journals at other participating libraries.

See the SCONUL Access for more information. Information about the scheme is also available from  Hull  and York.

We have also produced this handy guide to help with registering for SCONUL access.

Happy reading and have a fantastic Easter!

Extra Study Space at University of York Library

We know that you need more spaces in the Library - so this Easter York are creating extra study spaces in the Burton Building, ready for the Summer term.

Your feedback matters to us - and one of the things that we're told most often is that you want more study spaces in the Library. Our survey results show us that both undergraduate and postgraduate students express a need for more silent study space, and we know how important this is, especially around exam time.

Closure of the Reading Room

The Burton Reading Room closed on Monday 14 March, and will remain closed throughout the Easter vacation while work is carried out. During the refurbishment, power points, including power points at some desks will be added.
The Silent Reading Room on the second floor of Burton will remain open throughout, and the Yorkshire Room, on the ground floor of Burton, will be available as a consultation space. If you need to access any items held in the Reading Room, just ask at the Library & IT Help Desk at York, and they'll arrange to fetch them for you.

Reopening of the Reading Room

The Reading Room will reopen at the start of the summer term, with 50 extra study spaces - this will give a total of 139 study spaces in that area - an increase of 56%. The opening hours are also being increased  for the Burton: from the summer term, the building (including the Microform Room on the first floor) will be open 24/7 all year round, in line with the other Library buildings. The Reading Room will remain a silent study zone.

York Help Desk changes

The University of York Library and IT Services have been reviewing the way they provide support and information.

The Library Help Desk at the University of York is now staffed from 9am - 7pm on weekdays, and 10am-6pm at weekends. The only exception will be during Summer vacations when the Help Desk will be closed on Sundays. The Library itself is open 24 hours a day, 362 days a year.

In addition to this, from the New Year, York's Library Help Desk will be answering first-line IT queries as well as Library enquiries, extending the IT support hours available.
