Using Your Senses?
You may think you are using your 5 senses but that puts you out by 15; we actually have 20. In the library we came across this sweet infographic from the I, and it got us thinking! Sure we have come across a couple of these before and we know them to be false but there’s some surprises in here too (we’ll definitely be having a few more coffees).
If you are thinking this is a bit of Friday fun, you would be right, but it also illustrates a really important point - when it comes to evidencing your essays or performing a professional literature search you need to use reliable sources, based on evidence, to get the best information available to you. Whether you are in a clinical setting or writing up a paper make sure you are using the resources available from the HYMS Library Guide. Be smart, use evidence based, peer reviewed literature. We didn’t evolve from chimps!

Subscription reviews are like buses -
You wait for about a year
Colleagues based at the University of York affiliated to another department should be aware that the University of York Library is currently consulting with departments regarding subscriptions. If you wish to contribute to this exercise you should contact your non-HYMS departmental Library Rep for details.
The University of York review is separate from our own HYMS subscriptions review.
If you are a member of HYMS, no matter where based, please take the time to complete the latter.
If you are a member of a University of York department as well as HYMS you should ideally engage with both.
* Luckily only two this year and apologies to Wendy Cope.
And as soon as one approaches your stop
Two or three others appear.*

"Nobel winner declares boycott of top science journals"
"Randy Schekman, a US biologist who won the Nobel prize in physiology or medicine this year and receives his prize in Stockholm on Tuesday, said his lab would no longer send research papers to the top-tier journals, Nature, Cell and Science....
Schekman said pressure to publish in "luxury" journals encouraged researchers to cut corners and pursue trendy fields of science instead of doing more important work...
A journal's impact factor is a measure of how often its papers are cited, and is used as a proxy for quality. But Schekman said it was 'toxic influence' on science that 'introduced a distortion'..."
