Brynmor Jones Library Redevelopment latest news

What’s going on?

·    Architecturally-exact visualisations showing precisely how some key features of the redeveloped building will look have been published on the BJL web site.  If you have not seen these already go to:
http://www2.hull.ac.uk/lli/bjl-redevelopment/gallery.aspx

·    Building work is progressing rapidly.  In the basement the foundations for the new atrium lifts shafts are being constructed and hoardings are being erected on the floors of the tower in preparation for the installation of the new service risers

·    The book decant area on the ground floor of the east building, where books will be kept during the redevelopment of the tower, is nearing completion.  The removal of the books from the third and fourth floors will begin on 25th March.  At that point the third floor will no longer be accessible.  The fourth floor will close on 8th April.  During the relocation of the stock, you will be able to request material at any service point in the BJL and it will be available within 24 hours.  The book decant area is expected to be publicly accessible from 22nd April

·    Try to take out on loan any books you might want from the third and fourth floors before they close in order to avoid inconvenience during the removal stage

When’s it happening?
·    The third floor will close on 25th March and the fourth floor on 8th April

eBook focus groups - coming soon...

The HYMS Library team are investigating student use and views of eBooks. We are looking to hold focus groups at both sites at the end of April/start of May. Focus groups are limited to 9 students per group - only one focus group will be finally run at each site. This will be based on uptake and trying to allow as fair representation across both sites overall as possible.

Participants will be asked to fill out a short survey about their eBook use before attending the session and during the 1 hour (maximum) focus group will be asked to disccuss their views of the various eBook provider interfaces available to us. Sessions will be held in PBL rooms at either site.

Refreshments will be available at the focus groups and each particpant will receive a £10 Amazon voucher and will be entered into a prize draw to win an additional £25 Amazon voucher.

If you would like to attend please indicate your interest via this survey: https://docs.google.com/a/york.ac.uk/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFd4NmFQQWMwOEs4MEs3bGZ0S2xHM3c6MQ

Changes to AV Loans at the University of York

In response to popular demand, the University of York Library have changed the loan period for AV materials. It’s now the same as the standard period for ordinary loan items.

Since the introduction of Flexible Loans in October 2012 they have been actively seeking your feedback. They have received and responded to a range of individual enquiries and comments about the loan periods for items in the AV Collection.
In response to your feedback they have changed length of time items in the AV collection so that they operate in the same way as flexible loan items. This means that DVDs will, like books, be borrowable for a 4 week loan period unless they are requested. The new loan periods will be implemented on Monday 11 March.
Items in the AV collection can no longer be booked, but instead a request can be placed on an AV item that is on loan. Screening copies will remain as reference and can be borrowed by screening assistants nominated by departments. For more information about borrowing screening copies, please see the Screening copies guide (PDF , 428kb).
