Brynmor Jones Library redevelopment update

What’s going on?

·         Work around the south and west elevations has been intensive as removal of the old service infrastructure is removed in preparation for the installation of the new air handling units. This will result in the heating and ventilation in the building being fully functional and fit for purpose.  A new drainage system is also currently being installed 

·         Work is continuing in the east building and it is expected that the new Reading Room will be opened in early September

·         The third and fourth floor refurbishment is continuing and these floors are expected to be reopened in early September.

·         The location of books in the redeveloped Library can be found on the Redevelopment web site at http://www2.hull.ac.uk/lli/bjl-redevelopment/keeping-in-touch/finallocations.aspx

When’s it happening?

·         Work on the new service infrastructure continues

·         The new Reading Room will open in early September

BNF App Permissions issue

The BNF app available from NHS Evidence is currently not working. When downloaded it displays the message "Your credentials are correct but you do not have the necessary permissions to access the resource". NHS Evidence is working on fixing the error and we will let you know as soon as we hear that it is working again.

Changes to the Cochrane

The Cochrane Library is changing how it publishes their systematic reviews online. From June, new systematic reviews will be added to the Cochrane Library when they are ready (called Publish When Ready) rather than the usual time once a Month.

eBook Focus Groups: thanks and future

A big thanks to all who participated in our recent eBook focus groups: everyone earned their Freddy Frogs and vouchers. We got some really useful feedback which we will forward to the relevant eBook providers. We also got some pointers about how you would like to see HYMS Library provision develop if/when opportunities allow.

Feedback from the sessions indicated that eBooks were really useful and wanted but that access and design continued to be issues:

If design was better then ebooks would be better i.e if they were designed by Apple

and, in the case of one example looked at:

oh yes, this is the nightmare one...
 

Thanks also to all those who expressed an interest in the focus groups but who could not attend the ones scheduled. We hope to offer further Freddy Frog eBook feedback sessions in December/January.
